When we founded the precursor to CURRENT (Meshcrafts) in 2013, we set out to create the world’s best charging system. So we designed a revolutionary charging box based on a mesh network solution and an operating system that linked the chargers together. With it, we made it possible to expand the charging network with minimal investment in infrastructure while allowing everything to be managed from a single control panel. The solution was way ahead of its time and ahead of much of what’s on the market today.
OCPP WAS AT THE heart of the system FROM DAY ONE
As early as 2013, we knew that the charging industry would develop significantly in the years to come. Our founder, Åsmund Frengstad, predicted that more and more companies would need a solution that allowed them to connect several chargers. That’s why we decided right from the start that the system had to comply with the emerging industry standard, OCPP. A standard that we have helped to develop through our input and feedback. This opened up a world of possibilities.
Early on, we developed APIs and connectivity solutions, in line with the OCPP standard, that could connect our chargers, competitors’ chargers, and our system into a comprehensive charging solution. In addition, we developed solutions that could connect the entire charging solution to companies’ own systems. As we received feedback from customers and users, we realised that we’d made the world’s best and most thoroughly tested Charge Point Management System (CPMS). We had developed a charging system that was easy to use, easy to customise, and had features that made it possible to set up both small and large charging systems.
A SYSTEM THAT anyone can USE
Everyone could use our system, from large companies to small housing co-operatives, and we knew that the system was the best of its kind. Our future lay not in competing to build the best charging box, but in taking everything we had learned from developing Norway’s best system and sharpening our expertise even further. The result was the establishment of Current Eco AS.
