What should I do if my charging station isn't working?

We have gathered some tips on what to do if one of your charging stations has stopped working.
You should take the following steps before calling for help, as this might save you many hours of waiting and at least some money on an electrician.
Note: These are general recommendations. If the installer who set up your charging station has given you other instructions, follow those instead.

How to troubleshoot a charging point

Step 1: Check if the charger has power

If it lights up, it is usually not connected to the system; if it doesn't light up, the issue might be with the power supply. If it is on, go to step 2.
If it is not on, go to step 3.

Step 3: Restart the router

Go to the portal and check if the charger is connected to the system.
If it isn't, it is most likely also not connected to the internet. Check if the router that the charging point is connected to is working properly. To do this, connect to the router with a PC or mobile phone and see if you can access the internet. If you're unsure where the router is located, you can often follow the internet cable. If the router does not have internet access, try turning the router connected to the charger off and on. If the router still doesn't provide internet access, turn it off, wait 30 seconds and turn it on again. If the router is working correctly, make sure you haven't changed the password since the charging point was installed.
If you have internet access and the password has never been changed, but the charging point still doesn't work, it's time to restart the charging point.

Step 3: Restart the charging point

You can easily restart the charging point by flipping the breaker connected to the charging point in question. To do this, turn off the breaker, wait 30 seconds and turn it back on. If this didn't solve the problem, it's time for a self-check.

Step 4: Self-check

Go to the charger and take a look at it. Does everything look okay? Has it sustained any damage?
Then check the charging cable. Is there any damage to it?
You should also try swapping the charging cable with another one to see if that solves the issue.
If it works with another cable, there is something wrong with the old charging cable.

Step 5: Try charging with a different car

Often, it is the car and not the charger or system that is the problem.
Test the charge with another car before calling an electrician. If the charger works with another car, you know it's time to contact a workshop. If this doesn't solve the problem, we know there is something wrong with the box or its settings, in which case you can proceed to step 6.

Step 6: Are you still having problems?

If the steps above have not resolved the issue, it's time to call for help.
Note: complete all the steps before you call. These are the same steps an electrician will take before testing other solutions. Doing these yourself will save the electrician a lot of time and potentially save you from paying for an electrician. When you call for help, tell them that you have completed all the steps on this page. That way, the person you contact will know you've gone through the most common troubleshooting steps. We understand it can be frustrating to do this yourself, but it's even more frustrating to pay an electrician to come out only for them to tell you that a charging cable has stopped working.

For the future: Have a charging manager

As a housing association, condominium, or business, it might be a  good idea to have a charging manager. This is someone who knows where all components of the charging system are located, oversees them, and can perform all of the above steps when something goes wrong. Additionally, this person should arrangea n annual routine inspection of all chargers with a certified electrician.
